Credit Card Usage
Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted at most retail outlets in Korea. Diners Club and American Express cards may be accepted only at major hotels, shops, and restaurants. It is recommended to check with your credit card company for details on merchant acceptance and services.
Electricity
The standard voltage in Korea is 220V with a frequency of 60 Hz. The commonly used plug has two round pins, similar to those used in many European, South American, and Asian countries. Adapters are available for purchase at duty-free shops or convenience stores at Incheon International Airport.
VAT & Tipping
- Tipping: Tipping is not a common practice in Korea. A 10% service charge is often included in the bill at upscale restaurants and hotels. Tipping taxi drivers is not customary unless extra services are provided.
- Tax: Foreign visitors can receive tax refunds on goods purchased at certified Tax-Free Stores (up to 30,000 KRW). Refunds can also be claimed at the customs desk when leaving the country, provided applicable receipts are submitted.
